Planning Alumni

The University of Western Sydney has been teaching a formal Urban Planning degree since 1995. The teaching of Urban Planning is, now, the responsibility of the School of Sciences. The degree consists of either a Bachelor of Environmental Planning or a Bachelor of Planning.

International Award for Excellence - Climate Change

Congratulations go to UWS Staff Members Zareen Shahid and Dr. Awais Piracha, who have been selected as the winners of the International Award for Excellence in the area of Climate Change: Impacts and Responses. Their paper, Climate Change Impacts in Pakistan: Awareness and Adaptation, was selected by the editors for the award from the ten highest-ranked papers emerging from the referee process and according to the selection criteria outlined in the referee guidelines.

As the winning authors, they are invited to present a plenary session at the upcoming Third International Conference on Climate Change: Impacts and Responses to be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from 21-22 July 2011.

  Planning graduate receives award

 Planning graduate Nazia Pokar received an award from the Planning Institute of Australia on Nov. 3, 2010. Nazia works for the Mosmon Council as a strategic planner. The award was for " Mosman LEP 2010 (The bespoke consultation of a Standard LEP)" in which the community took advantage of the range of communication tools. The bespoke consultation allowed for flexibility and throughout the project Council's planners had to adapt existing and learn new skills in film making; blog moderation; website creation and content preparation. Nazia is pictured with Awais Piracha after receiving the award.

PIA and UWS student welcome

The Inaugural Student Welcome for all students enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Science (Geography and Urban Studies) and Master of Urban Management and Planning programs was held on Monday 28th Feb.  

The student welcome commenced with a brief presentation by a Planning Institute of Australia NSW Young Planners Committee representative on the benefits of PIA membership and upcoming PIA NSW Young Planners events in 2011.  All students received a PIA NSW information pack on the night.

Young planning professionals were available to answer career questions.
