Professor Arvanitakis on Opening Doors

Professor James Arvanitakis, Prime Minister’s Australian University Teacher of the Year, is well-known for his innovative teaching practices, including bringing in props such as Spongebob Squarepants and dancing with drums. Take part in an online study

Using online environments, including social media, the Safe and Well Online Study (part of an Australian Government-supported initiative called the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre) aims to positively influence youths and promote respect and positive attitudes and behaviours online.

As part of the study, researchers are seeking parents and young people to complete two surveys about cyberbullying, respect and body image. For more information about the study or to register your participation, please visit the Safe and Well Online Study website (opens in a new window). Please register by Thursday 29 August.

Parents who register can enter a prize draw to win movie tickets while young people can enter a draw to win an iPad.

August is Sustainability Month

To celebrate UWS’s commitment to sustainability, competitions and activities will be held throughout August. Get involved in Sustainability Month by joining a sustainability trivia competition, cup design competition, recycled fashion workshops or green cleaning stalls. There will also be giveaways throughout the month, including fruit and seed pots, and if you’ve been meaning to do something with the countless plastic shopping bags you’ve accumulated or those stinky old sneakers, you’ll be able to easily recycle them at convenient drop-off locations on-campus. Sneaker recycling points will be located at each Connect Fitness gym and outside Connect Central at Parramatta campus. Plastic bag recycling points will be available outside all Connect Centrals. You'll also notice clothing recycling points at Kingswood (Building K), Bankstown (Building 1), Campbelltown (Building 2), Parramatta (outside Connect Central) and Hawkesbury (L2).

Find out more about what will be happening on your campus on the uwsconnect webpage (opens in a new window). More information on the University’s sustainability initiatives can be found on the Sustainability webpage (opens in a new window).

Welcome to the new library website!

The library has migrated to a new website, enhanced search interface and updated library system. The new website includes a clearer menu structure, the introduction of ‘how-to’ guides menu and live opening hours are now listed on the front page.

An upgrade to the search box has integrated My Library services, making it easier to renew or request items and enabling to you to bookmark e-resources and physical resources via your My Library account, personalise results and save search queries in your My Library account, and has removed the stand-alone Library catalogue search.

Extended hours in study hall mode (opens in a new window) are once again offered at Parramatta, Campbelltown and Bankstown in Spring semester.

To provide feedback or for more information, please contact the Library (opens in a new window).
