Working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

Bridges to Higher Education encompasses a range of programs that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in their aspiration for, and access to higher education.

The project builds on the success of the reading, literacy, numeracy and computer and telecommunication skills programs that the Bridges universities have been offering in recent years.

New and expanded programs include an Indigenous High Achievers Program and a sport-based holiday camp program.

Many Bridges projects incorporate an emphasis on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, tailoring content for students, families and community members.

Programs for Indigenous students are delivered in partnership with schools, non-government organisations such as The Smith Family, and elders and others in local communities.

Our work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people covers both rural and regional areas and Greater Western Sydney, which represents one of Australia’s highest Indigenous populations.
