Health and Wellbeing

Health and Wellbeing Initiatives at UWS

Wellbeing is more than happiness and health. It’s about having meaning in life and feeling that life is fulfilling and worthwhile. There are many aspects of wellbeing, including physical, emotional, social, financial and spiritual.

The promotion of good health and wellbeing is important and we all have a role to play. Under an MOU with Population Health, Nepean Blue Montains Local Health Districts and Western Sydney Local Health Districts we are currently working on a range of Healthy Lifestyle Initiatives. To find out more please contact Rowena at Rowena.Saheb@swahs.health.nsw.gov.au

Get Healthy at UWS

UWS recognises the importance of health and wellbeing, and supports the efforts of staff, students and our alumni to make positive changes to their health and lifestyle, and maintain these changes. The Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service is a free, confidential telephone-based coaching service, delivered by qualified health professionals. To find out more information, please see the Get Healthy Information and Coaching Service web page.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Achieving and maintaining good mental health and wellbeing is important for everyone.

Wellbeing is an ongoing process we need to work on at all times. Everything we do, think and feel has an impact on our health and wellbeing. The state of our wellbeing affects all aspects of our lives, including our health, productivity and relationships with others. Find out more about Health and Wellbeing at UWS and their online services.

An Active Way to Better Health

There are a number of easy ways to get active in your day and improve your health. Think of movement as an opportunity not an inconvenience and get at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity most days. Make a habitat out of walking or cycling around campus rather than driving to your lecture room. Take the stairs instead of the lift in your office building everyday.

Connect Fitness Centres are located across all our campuses. To find out more information or to join the gym please see the connect fitness website (opens in a new window).

Go4Fun @ UWS

UWS has established a partnership with Population Health, Nepean Blue Mountains and Western Sydney Local Health Districts and is working with Population Health on a range of healthy lifestyle initiatives for staff and students, including Go4Fun. The Go4Fun program is a free healthy lifestyle program for kids that aims to provide children with the information and skills to become fit, healthy and happy. To find out how more about this program or to register please visit the Go4Fun @ UWS webpage.

Men’s Health Research Centre

The Men's Health Information and Resource Centre explores the health of boys and men in terms of the factors in society and life that build or undermine this health. In terms of life expectancy and on most measures of wellbeing, men have poorer outcomes than their female counterparts and this is the result of complex factors in the lives of boys and men that contribute to such outcomes. The Men's Health Information and Resource Centre is working to shed light on the issues and opportunities to improve male health through policy, advocacy, research and community engagement.
