Sustainability Month

Think before you throw

Sustainability Month is a joint initiative between the Office of Sustainability and uwsconnect held during August. This years theme is 'Think before you throw'. For full details and an event calendar please visit the uwsconnect website (opens in a new window).

Sustainability Month will be officially launched on UWS Parramatta Campus on the 8th August by UWS Vice Chancellor, Professor Janice Reid. The event will commence at 10:30am and run through until 2pm outside the Boilerhouse.  

Activities on the day will include:

  • Sustainability Information stall from Parramatta City Council
  • Greening UWS Product display
  • Free Corn on The Cob BBQ
  • Free give aways to staff and students
  • Competitions
  • Free Fruit & seedlings
  • Free coffee workshops
  • Greening Australia
  • Launch of new Karma Kups
  • Live Music
  • Information stalls
  • Native animal information session with live species
  • Highlight and information on recycling points that will be on all campuses during August
  • Display of UWS Solar car from the student Group Solar Car Club
  • Sustainability Pledge Tree

Recycle your old clothes and shoes

A great way to reduce your waste to landfill is by reusing or passing on the things you don't use anymore. During Sustainabilty Month bins will be placed in the following locations

Nike Grind Recycling Points: Connect Fitness on all campuses and outside Connect Central at Parramatta campus

Plastic Bag Recycling Points: Outside Connect Central on all campuses

Clothing Recycling Points:

  • Kingswood: Foyer Building K
  • Bankstown: Outside Campus Life Offices, Building 1
  • Campbelltown: Building 2
  • Parramatta: outside Connect Central
  • Hawkesbury: Building L2
