Bin Design Challenge
Do the right thing, design the right bin!
Are you a budding designer or inventor? Do you want to help save the planet? Have you got a innovative design that will increase waste collection on campus?
UWS Office of Sustainability and the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics are running a design challenge for our UWS students to come up with an innovative, simple bin design that will foster sustainable behaviour in terms of waste management.

What are we looking for?
The design must be an end product piece that can be put out in public areas the sole purpose of which is to encourage UWS staff and students to increase their waste disposal. Please see an example of the type of designs (YouTube) (opens in a new window) we could be looking for.
We are looking for designs that are:
- real size, end product pieces
- low cost
- creative and intriguing
- aesthetically pleasing
- easy installed and uninstalled
- safe for use, cleaning and wildlife
- can withstand being outdoors
- original designs not under copyright
Conditions of Entry
- To enter you must be currently enrolled UWS student.
- Designs submitted must be the original work of the entrant - not under copyright.
- The decision of the judges will be final and no correspondence shall be entered into.
- All submitted designs may be displayed and used by/at University of Western Sydney to their own judgment and utilised for their intended use.
- All designs must display your student ID number and name when judged and on display .
- UWS reserves the right to photograph or film all submitted designs for promotional purposes through a variety of media, including but not limited to websites, articles, digital media, video clips and posters, including use your name and image.
- By agreeing to participate in the competition, you assign to the University of Western Sydney (UWS) the property and the rights to use your bin design in its entirety or in part as to the universities judgement. This includes the right to showcase, publicly or privately display your design and employ it for its intended use across, but not limited to, UWS campuses. Acknowledgement for design will be given to the winning student.

Remember to keep a copy of your submission receipt to collect your design after judging.
