Excellence Award

The Macarthur Astronomical Society (MAS) which has contributed and run astronomy programs with the Campbelltown Rotary Observatory at Western Sydney University, Campbelltown Campus for over ten years was awarded the Excellence in Partnership Award by Vice-Chancellor, Professor Barney Glover. 

Over the last ten years 50,000 members of the public and students in the Western Sydney area have participated in the Observatory's programs. The citation read: "The Macarthur Astronomical Society has, in partnership with the University's Campbelltown Rotary Observatory, conducted astronomy talks and activities to bring the latest advances in physics, astrophysics and high technology to the community. This enables the community to participate in debates about science in an informed manner with experts and politicians." 

Dr Ragbir Bhathal, Director of the Observatory nominated the Society for the award. The award recognises "the highly-valued contributions of the University's community partners".
