UWS Early Learning Bankstown Child Care Centre

Centre Philosophy

We believe that children develop skills that will support them in the future. Our educators are committed to providing an environment which is focussed on the process of learning rather than the outcome. We teach ways to investigate and explore and how to find out answers, independent and active learning.

Our approach to education is holistic which means that we plan for the whole development of the child. We consider the physical, emotional, social, cognitive, language, wellbeing, cultural and creative development of each child. The children engage with learning that caters for their interests and abilities.

It is most important that the children are supported with their transition to the centre and it is our aim to create an environment which helps children to form close bonds and fell safe and secure with the staff and other children. This is achieved through an orientation process and a gentle introduction to the child care encouraging the children to participate in play dates.

Parents who are interested in childcare may contact the centre director to discuss arrangements and to receive a guided tour.

Curriculum

The childcare centre implements a curriculum that is guided by the Early Years Learning Frame Work. Each room displays their program on the parent information board. Children’s learning is documented from each day and is available for parents to read. At the end of each day we have a power point presentation of photos on the lap top in the foyer.

National Quality Framework

The centre is involved in this improvement program where we are committed to evaluate our policies, procedures, curriculum and learning environment in order to provide the highest quality child care for your children. Parents are asked to give feed back to the centre about the service we provide. This will enable us to have a realistic review and evaluation.

Portfolios

Each child has their learning and creative work recorded in their own book and they include observations, parent input, events, art work and samples of work.

School Preparation

The 4-5 year class has a program that is focussed on preparing the children for transition to school. In this program the children learn skills that will assist them in Kindergarten. The children will develop their fine motor skills for writing and will learn about the written language. They are encouraged to learn to write their name, numbers and to look at the alphabet, and other systems of recording. They also learn techniques to research projects and to investigate subjects they are interested in. The children have access to computers and libraries to learn more about spiders and dinosaurs, transport, etc. We also extend learning in this age group with organised excursion out into the community including Panania Library, Museums and the UWS campus. We also are developing a school orientation program where the children will have visits to a local school to experience learning with in a Kindergarten class
