Pilot of the Blended Learning initiative in flat-floor teaching spaces of building 20

Upgrade of flat-floor teaching spaces for Blended Learning pilot in building 20Three flat-floor teaching spaces in building 20 were upgraded over the 2012/2013 intersession break as part of a new initiative and pilot program to provide functional, dynamic and collaborative learning spaces for students. Capital Works and Facilities collaborated with Information Technology Services, UWS stakeholders and end users (academic staff) on the design of the collaborative new learning spaces. The new spaces have mobile tables and chairs, laptop charging stations, state-of-the-art audio visual equipment and projection screens, wireless internet and glass writing surfaces on all walls to facilitate group learning and collaboration.

Construction of new student accommodation and common room facility

Construction of new student accommodation on Bankstown campusIn 2012, three three-storey student accommodation blocks (194 beds) were constructed in the south-west corner of the Bankstown campus. Each unit contains communal lounge and kitchen areas, and either five bedrooms with shared toilets and showers or single studios with own toilet, shower and kitchenette. 

Pedestrian pathways, common facilities and recreational areas were strategically placed to connect the new accommodation with the original accommodation. Direct vehicle access was also provided from Ashford Avenue on the western boundary of the campus.

Building 28, a new child care facility

Concept design of the new child care centreA new childcare facility complete with dedicated outdoor play areas and a car park was constructed on the Bankstown campus in 2012. Situated to the north of the P2 car park and adjacent to Ian Smith Avenue, the new facility replaced the existing child care centre, which was located within the student accommodation precinct.
