Building K3 upgrade for postgraduates, Hawkesbury campus

Building K3 upgrade for postgraduates

Building K3 was originally constructed as a feed store serving the adjacent stables in building K4, Stable Square. The building is visible on the earliest campus plans, which indicates that it is well over 100 years old. In the early 1900s, a classroom was added to the original building to teach saddlery. The addition gave the building the shape and form it has today.

In 1995 building K3 became the headquarters for the UWS Student Association, however, in the years leading up to 2013, the building was largely unused, the only exception being the class room, which was used as spill-over flat-floor teaching space.

In early 2012, building K3 was upgraded into a dedicated postgraduate facility, complete with open-plan and shared office spaces over two levels (50 student carrels in total), 24-hour swipe-card access, kitchenette, lounge area and amenities.

The external shaded seating areas adjacent to the building were also upgraded for respite and to improve the connection between building K3 and building K4, Stable Square.

Completed: 8 April 2013
