Hawkesbury campus
Completed CW&F projects on Hawkesbury campus
New student residences and common facilities (buildings N26 - N36)
The existing student residences on the Hawkesbury campus have been expanded and a 'student village' has been created through common facilities and recreational areas, which are integrated with the sports and leisure facilities on the campus.
120 fully furnished, self-contained studio-style bedrooms with a bathroom and kitchenette have been constructed in clusters of five studios in one and two storey combinations.
Completed: 18 October 2012Building M3 landscaping upgrade linking with Nursing Precinct
The external area around building M3 has been upgraded with new paving, soft landscaping and external lighting, linking building M3 with the nursing precinct, including buildings M4, M2, H8 (currently under construction) and H7.
This project also involved civil works to improve drainage in the area. New irrigation lines were installed so the gardens can be irrigated with recycled water.
Completed: 26 October 2012Building R8, Memorial Hall, landscape upgrade and civil works
Following the recent refurbishment of building R8, Memorial Hall, the landscaping around the building was upgraded to reflect the original era of the building (i.e. historical plants, including Gallipoli Rosemary). New paths have been installed to link Memorial Hall with the surrounding buildings, Fairy Circle and the horticultural areas of the campus, as per the Hawkesbury campus Landscape Management Plan.
This project also involved civil works to improve drainage in the area and a new car park, and loading dock were constructed on the north-western side of the building.
New irrigation lines were installed to facilitate irrigation of the gardens and lawn area around the building with recycled water.
Completed: 31 August 2012
Building H7 refurbishment for teaching

The extensive refurbishment of building H7, a major teaching venue for the Hawkesbury campus, was completed in mid-2012. The historic value of the building has been recognised through the removal of unsympathetic additions to reveal the original design of the building. In keeping with the original heritage design of the building, the rafters and gables were exposed.

CCERF Free Air CO2 Experiment (EucFACE)
EucFACE is state-of-the-art infrastructure for simulating future carbon dioxide atmospheric conditions in native bushland. The University of Western Sydney's EucFACE, which is part of the Climate Change and Energy Research Facility on the Hawkesbury campus, is the first experiment of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The focal point of the facility is the six identical experimental ‘arrays’ composed of carbon-fibre composite material that have been erected inside the forest on the western side of the Hawkesbury campus. Each array has its own 30 metre tower crane, which enable free access to all areas of the experimental plots.
Through the use of staging areas in less sensitive areas of the forest and light-weight construction techniques that involved more traditional forms of manual handling instead of heavy machinery and the use of a helicopter for construction, the facility was constructed with minimal disturbance to the site’s highly sensitive, ecologically significant flora and fauna.
EucFACE won the Environmental Management category at the Master Builders Association of NSW 2012 Construction Awards Gala dinner on Saturday 3 November 2012.
