Building EE auditorium upgrade
Following completion of the graduation ceremonies in late December 2011, the Ian and Nancy Turbott Auditorium, building EE, Parramatta south campus, was upgraded. The scope of works included new seating, finishes and lighting for the auditorium and teaching spaces, new air-conditioning, finishes and furnishing for the main hall, entry design for the foyer and new fixtures and finishes for the amenities. The project also addressed issues related to the building air-conditioning system, wet areas, forecourt and the sustainable design of the building.
Completed: 20 February 2012
Student precinct - stage 2
Through the student precinct project (stages 1 and 2), the centre of the Parramatta campus was transformed into an exciting public space. Stage 2 saw the historic boiler house (circa 1894) rebuilt as a uwsconnect food outlet (aptly named 'Boilerhouse') and extended with an extensive undercover area. Industrial artefacts from the historic boiler house were restored and displayed throughout the campus in an interpretive artistic manner. These artefacts, along with the chimney stack, are a reminder of the site's former use as an orphanage and, later, as a psychiatric hospital.
This project won the Adaptive re-use of an historic building up to $5 million category at the Master Builders Association of NSW 2012 Construction Awards Gala Dinner on Saturday 3 November 2012. The project then went on to win the Master Builders Australia National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award for under $5 million on Friday 16 November 2012.
