Precinct 1: forecourt to buildings EA and EB

In 2012, a new entry and arrival plaza was developed on the Parramatta south campus at the junction of two showcase teaching buildings, building EA and building EB. Commissioned by the University as part of a staged infrastructure program of building and landscaping upgrades to enhance the student experience on the Parramatta campus, the plaza provides a space for congregation and displaying public art, and acts as a transport hub.

This project also involved realigning Fifth Street to rationalise vehicle and pedestrian movements in that area of the campus, whilst maintaining the avenue an original thoroughfare lined with heritage trees and sandstone kerbs. Significant stormwater and drainage upgrade works were undertaken and a concrete masonry detention tank was constructed under part of the plaza to capture stormwater run-off from surrounding higher ground.

A new bus shelter was also constructed adjacent to the arrival plaza and a new car park was created on the western side of building EB.

Careful consideration was given to enhance the visual appeal of the campus whilst protecting the heritage elements.
