The Work Ready Mentoring Program

The Work Ready program (PDF, 375.87 KB) targets students in their final year of study and aims to help them to build career skills while they are studying. Mentoring is just one element of this program.

As a Work Ready mentor, you can guide and inspire our students to plan their transition to the world of full time work and develop a network of contacts.

Your brief, regular contact, would involve:

  • advice, support, encouragement and tips.
  • networking opportunities relevant to the student's future employment.

The mentoring period can begin at any time as it is very casual and flexible. Your involvement would be (a minimum of):

  • around an hour of your time per month for email/telephone correspondence.
  • a one-off face-to-face meeting with your mentee if you choose.

Read about the benefits of being a mentor (opens in a new window) or to see the benefits for students (opens in a new window). You can also read our short Work Ready Mentoring Guide (opens in a new window) to learn about what makes a good mentor and which gives you some questions you could use with your mentee.

You may also consider involving your mentee in other events, networking opportunities and relevant activities related to your work.

The student will be required to negotiate a mentoring agreement (opens in a new window) with you which will establish parameters and specify how you both would like things to progress and the level of commitment you can give.

We invite you to become involved in the Work Ready program as a mentor.
