Work Integrated Learning (WIL)

Careers & Cooperative Education is involved as a partner university in two Office for Learning and Teaching (previously DEEWR) funded Work Integrated Learning (WIL) projects on:

Careers & Cooperative Education is an active member of the Australian Collaborative Education Network (ACEN)(opens in a new window)which is the professional association for WIL practitioners and researchers from the higher education sector, industry, community and government representatives in Australia. UWS is an institutional member of ACEN and all UWS staff can register(opens in a new window) as individual members and access valuable resources and information on WIL.

Assessing the impact of WIL on student work readiness

This project will research:

  1. the essential characteristics of WIL (e.g. authenticity, experiential learning) and how these can be measured validly across all types of WIL, whether placement-based or not.
  2. How "work readiness" should be conceptualised and measured in ways that can be validly applied in all disciplines and used as a basis for National Standards for Quality Assurance.
  3. What impact WIL has on work-readiness across a range of WIL types, including alternatives to placement WIL, and in a range of disciplines.

Leading WIL: distributed leadership approach to enhance WIL outcomes

This project will identify the critical challenges to WIL leadership capabilities and structures. A framework and guidelines to support WIL leadership capacity building nationally will be developed, trialled and validated through institutionally-based Master Classes that model and employ a distributed learning approach through national Communities of Practice and a WIL Leadership Summit.

UWS is one of five partner universities involved in this project.

Visit the Australian Govt OLT WIL Leadership Project(opens in a new window) for more information on this project and the partner universities.
