Career Advice

You may find answers to many of your career related questions using info sheets and websites on UWS CareerHub(opens in a new window)or by attending skill development workshops throughout the semester. Career vUWS(opens in a new window), 21 online career development modules, can also be accessed at any time on your vUWS site.  

Careers & Cooperative Education offers a number of ways to get advice from a Careers Education Consultant:

  1. Ask a question on CareerHub(opens in a new window) - See 'My Questions' under the 'My Profile' banner.
  2. Ask a question during Careers Doctor(opens in a new window) which is a discussion board on Career vUWS.
  3. Book a confidential appointment through CareerHub(opens in a new window) for face to face or telephone appointments - See under the 'Appointments' heading on CareerHub*.

*Note: Appointments generally last up to 30 minutes. Please ensure you list your career related question(s) when you book your appointment so the consultant can be prepared.

Questions that might typically be addressed in a appointment include:

  • What career options are available for my major?
  • Will this course get me to where I want to go?
  • The course I'm in isn't what I expected, what do I do now?
  • What do I really want to do at the end of my course?

Resume Advice

Resumes are much more than just a chronological listing of skills and activities. It is your opportunity to promote yourself to potential employers. It is a reflection of how you see yourself and, to the trained reader can portray your values, philosophies and areas of employment interest. So the best person to write your resume is you. Careers & Cooperative Education provides a range of services to assist you with this task:

Resume checking at UWS events

This service provides a very brief resume check at selected expos and events on campus. Here you will be advised about how to improve your resume.

Resume review service

Our online Resume Review Request Form (opens in a new window) allows you to submit your resume for review by one of our Career Education Consultants. You will need to be registered with CareerHub in order to use this service.
