Internships, Jobs & Work Experience
Internships and work experience is a great way to increase your employment opportunities. There are a range of internships across all disciplines which provides you with the skills and experience necessary to compete in the graduate market.
Internships
We offer two types of internship placements:
- Local internships
- International internships

Local Internships
Work on a specific project or complete on-going work for an organisation full or part time. Over 60% of students gain on-going work from their placement. Our internships may even count for internship or engagement units within some courses - please check with your course advisor.
International Internships
Have you ever thought about travelling or working overseas? UWS Careers and Cooperative Education is currently offering exciting international internship opportunities for students over the 2013-2014 summer vacation period. You can work in countries such as China, India, Nepal and Vietnam! Not only will you work in leading organisations, you will also gain valuable skills and experience working in a cross-cultural setting that will set you apart from others when applying for future employment positions!
Students successfully selected for the international internship program will receive a grant of $3000 to assist in funding their trip. In order to be eligible to participate, students must meet the following criteria:
- Have Australian citizenship or permanent residency
- Have a strong academic record
- Completed at least 80 credit points by November 2013 and have at least 30 credit points left to complete in 2014
- Evidence of funds of at least $3,000 (to supplement the grant if required)

- Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Science Park (Duke Kunshan University Campus Design and Construction), China
Rhys Graham is a third year Engineering student who undertook an international internship with the Kunshan Yangcheng Lake Science Park (Duke Kunshan University Campus Design and Construction), a world class construction organisation in China during the 2012 Summer Vacation period. Having the opportunity to develop unparalleled degree related skills and experience a completely new culture were only some of the many fabulous outcomes from participating in the program.
Angus Reynolds is a third year Advanced Business Leadership student who undertook an international internship with Innovaid, a philanthropic organisation in India as a ‘Strategy Planning Intern’ in the 2012 Summer Vacation period. The International Internship program offered Angus the opportunity to immerse himself in the Indian culture as well as develop countless degree related skills that will set him apart from others in the employment process. Please note: Careers & Cooperative Education is able to provide insurance only for unpaid, degree-relevant work placements with volunteer, not-for-profit and government organisations. The 2009 Fair Work Act currently restricts unpaid work experience which is not a course requirement and/or within for-profit organisation.
If your work experience or placement is a course requirement you will need to arrange insurance with your School.
