Whether you are unsure about where your degree will lead you or just wondering how to get a job, Careers & Cooperative Education can assist you with all your career issues. Common areas for assistance include:

 

Career Advice


Careers & Cooperative Education offers a number of ways to get advice from a Careers Education Consultant:

  1. Ask a question on CareerHub(opens in a new window) - See 'My Questions' under the 'My Profile' banner.
  2. Ask a question during Careers Doctor(opens in a new window) which is a discussion board in real time on Wednesdays 8 - 9pm and Thursdays from 12 - 1pm.
  3. Catch Careers Coach(opens in a new window)on your campus.
  4. Book a confidential appointment through CareerHub(opens in a new window) for face to face or telephone appointments - See under the 'Appointments' heading on CareerHub*.

*Note: Appointments generally last up to 30 minutes. Please ensure you list your career related question(s) when you book your appointment so the consultant can be prepared.

Questions that might typically be addressed in a appointment include:

  • What career options are available for my major?
  • Will this course get me to where I want to go?
  • The course I'm in isn't what I expected, what do I do now?
  • What do I really want to do at the end of my course?
You may also find answers to many of your career related questions using info sheets and websites on UWS CareerHub(opens in a new window)or by attending skill development workshops throughout the semester. Career development modules(opens in a new window)can also be accessed at any time on your vUWS site.

Resume Advice


Resumes are much more than just a chronological listing of skills and activities. It is your opportunity to promote yourself to potential employers. It is a reflection of how you see yourself and, to the trained reader can portray your values, philosophies and areas of employment interest. So the best person to write your resume is you. Careers & Cooperative Education provides a range of services to assist you with this task:


Resume checking at UWS events

This service provides a very brief resume check at selected expos and at Careers Coach on your campus. Here you will be advised about how to improve your resume.

 

Comprehensive resume review service

This thorough review of your resume and where relevant an accompanying cover letter, is available only to students who have completed a Resume Basics workshop, or the 'Resumes & Letters Module' on Career vUWS(opens in a new window). Details of how to access this service are provided at the workshop and at the completion of the Career vUWS(opens in a new window) module.
