The Campus Art Project enables students in local Primary and Secondary Schools to showcase their artwork in exhibitions at the Margot Hardy Gallery.

The project is designed to encourage school students to prepare their own art exhibition: selecting artistic creations for display, framing the artworks, captioning artworks and producing invitations to their exhibition.

This project offers student’s opportunities of learning that are different from their regular classes.

Schools are encouraged to display student exhibitions for a minimum of eight weeks. Regular visitors to this venue are University staff and students, members of the local community, as well as family and friends of exhibiting artists.

The Gallery

The Margot Hardy Gallery is approximately 23 metres square and has 21 metres of hanging space. There are permanent rails running around the gallery which allows artwork to be hung in all areas. For more information, please see the Margot Hardy Gallery Floor Plan (PDF, 1374Kb)

It is open to the public 9.00 am to 9.00 pm, Monday to Friday. It is an unmanned gallery, with 24 hour video surveillance spanning the length of the exhibition space.

Exhibition Resource Kit

UWS has developed an exhibition resource kit to assist schools in producing a professional exhibition. This kit includes:

Frames:
UWS can provide schools with a number of frames and different coloured mount boards which enable students to mount, frame and hang their artworks.

There are four different sized frames:

  • (4) x 70 cm x 100 cm
  • (15) x 40 cm x 50 cm
  • (10) x 40 cm x 40 cm
  • (20) x 30 cm x 40 cm
Available Mounting

The backing board colours to mount artworks on are white, black, dark blue, light blue, red, yellow and green. Instructions on how to fit artworks into frames is supplied in this kit.

Poster and Label Templates:
The kit also supplies teachers with templates to create posters for their exhibition. These can be put up around school grounds (library, notice boards, staff room etc.) to advertise the event. Posters could also be used in the gallery space. Other templates include artwork labels to identify the student and name of their work and a permission slip to send to parents notifying them of the event.

Costs:
While there is no charge for the hire of the venue, frames or resource kit, all other costs associated with the exhibition will be met by the organising school, such as transport of artworks to venue, invitations etc.
