Acupuncture Treatment for Period Pain Clinical Trial

Can different frequencies and types of acupuncture treatment help pain and reduce the need to take medication for period pain? The Centre for Complementary Medicine Research at the University of Western Sydney has designed a New Zealand study to find out.

We are conducting a study in Auckland and Wellington starting in June 2013 for women aged between 18-45 who suffer from period pain. This study involves receiving an acupuncture treatment four times per month along with some diet and lifestyle advice. Participants in the study will be randomly allocated to one of four groups, and will either be treated once a week for three weeks, or three times in the week before the period begins. All women will get an acupuncture treatment in the first two days of their period.

If you are between the ages of 18-45, have period pain on a regular basis and participating in this study interests you, please fill in your contact details below. Mike Armour, the lead investigator, will contact you via email or telephone (whichever you prefer) in the next 48 hours to explain more about what the trial involves and to discusses your eligibility.
