CompleMED’s vision is to be recognised nationally and internationally as a leading Australasian authority for high quality complementary medicine research, particularly in traditional Chinese medicine. In the recent ERA (Excellence in Research Australia), UWS research in complementary medicine is rated a '5' - characterised by evidence of "outstanding performance, well above world standard" and the highest rating possible. Read more.

Health services worldwide are looking at the inclusion of various forms of complementary medicine practices alongside conventional medicine. A cornerstone of this process is the provision of scientific evidence to validate the safety and efficacy of these medicines and practices. CompleMED’s research program is strategically aimed at providing a strong, independent source of quality research in complementary medicine that is responsive to these needs. 

CompleMED is already recognised as Australia’s foremost expertise in traditional Chinese medicine research, and is well placed to be a focal point for research and innovation for the industry. Our research program builds on this existing research and educational platform in traditional Chinese medicine, and is expanding in strategic areas to include other forms of complementary medicine.

CompleMED’s key objectives are to:

• provide best practice clinical research and outcomes evaluation in complementary medicine
• provide leadership in laboratory research in herbal medicines, particularly traditional Chinese medicines
• provide government and industry with quality, independent research and advice relating to the development of the complementary medicines industry in Australia
• be recognised nationally and internationally as a provider of high quality research training in complementary medicine
