Awards and Achievements

Led by Professor Yan Zhang, the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (ISL) consists of 4 academic staff, 1 ARC funded post-doc fellow and 8 research students. The ISL has an international reputation in the areas of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning and Intelligent Agents.

During the first six months of 2009, ISL has made the following outstanding achievements:

• Dr Dongmo Zhang and his team won the champion of Trading Agent Competition Market Design 2009.
• PhD Candidate Masabumi Furuhata, who is doing a joint PhD degree between UWS and University of Toulouse I, France, has succeeded in his PhD Thesis Defense at the University of Toulouse, France.
• PhD Candidate student Vernon Shaun Asuncion was awarded UWS University Medal in April 2009 for his outstanding Honours result in 2008.

ISL researchers have continuously published research papers in the highest standard conferences and journals in the field, these include:

• Dr Dongmo Zhang has a paper published in A* conference IJCAI-2009
• Prof Yan Zhang and Dr Yi Zhou published a paper in A* journal Artificial Intelligence
• Prof Yan Zhang has also published papers in other two A journals, Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research and the Journal of Logic and Computation

ISL has made significant contributions towards external fundings, HRD completions and high quality publications. Currently, ISL researchers host 2 ARC Discovery grants and 1 ARC Linkage grant.
