2012 Professional Staff Conference

Shaping the Future -

from Vision to Action

 4 June 2012

Penrith Panthers - Penrith

UWS recognises the importance of professional and career development of our staff, and values the professionalism of General staff at UWS.

Following the overwhelming success of past conferences in 2010 & 2011, the 2012 UWS Professional Staff Conference will be held on 4 June 2012 at Penrith Panthers in Penrith.

Designed specifically for Professional (General) staff, including managers and administrative and technical staff the Conference supports key initiatives of the UWS Making the Difference Strategy and Our People 2015 staffing strategy. The conference provides UWS Professional staff with a significant professional development and networking opportunity, as well as the opportunity to showcase new initiatives and best practice in higher education.

The theme of the 2012 Professional Staff Conference is: Shaping the Future - from Vision to Action.

Registration: Closed. Waiting list available.

Registration for attendance at the 2012 Professional Staff Conference has now closed. We are keeping a waiting list for those staff who still wish to attend so please email your interest in attending to Kim Nemetz. Registration will be $95 per person.

Please note: Refunds will not be given. However, if registrants are unable to attend, they may nominate an alternative delegate from the same project area, up to the 18 May. Staff should advise Kim Nemetz if this occurs.

If you are no longer able to attend the Conference, please notify Kim Nemetz immediately as we have staff waiting for a place.

Abstracts

Abstract submission is now closed.

Ideas for abstracts must be relevant to your work at UWS, and may relate to an achievement, innovation, business practice or collaborative venture. Where possible, abstracts should also relate to the conference theme "Shaping the Future - from Vision to Action". Please submit abstracts via the Abstract Submission Form.

It is expected that presenters will speak for 15-20 minutes with up to 10 minutes of Q&A time.

Presentation training is available on the 17 May and you can book this via staff Online. This year we are also holding a 1 day session on Monday 28 May where all presenters will be encouraged to come along and undertake a 'dry run' of their presentation to ensure that timing is correct, tweak your presentation and to allow for first time presenters to increase their confidence prior to the Conference. More information regarding this day will be provided to successful presenters of abstracts.

Objectives of the Conference

The objectives of the conference are to:

  • provide career development and networking opportunities for our Professional staff.
  • demonstrate the value of Professional staff in supporting and achieving the UWS Strategic Mission.
  • showcase innovative ideas and initiatives in higher education practice developed by Professional staff at UWS.

Who Should Attend?

The conference is open to all UWS staff. However, sessions will be directed towards Professional (General) staff, including managers and technical and administrative staff, rather than academic staff.

Abstracts will only be accepted from UWS Professional (General) staff.

Program

The Professional Staff Conference Program features:

  • an opening address by the Chancellor, Professor Peter Shergold, and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Janice Reid
  • an update from the Deputy Vice-Chancellors
  • concurrent sessions comprising presentations by UWS Professional staff
  • a plenary session comprising a panel of Pro Vice-Chancellors with an opportunity for Q&A
  • Our program this year also gives you more opportunities to network with your colleagues and there will be a number of interactive sessions.

The concurrent sessions will showcase achievements, innovations, best practice and collaborative ventures at UWS. There will be sessions relevant to managers and administrative and technical staff, giving delegates the opportunity to choose to attend specific presentations of interest and relevance.

Parking and Transport

Ample free parking is available on the day. Public buses also run from Penrith Station to stops nearby the venue with a 10-15 minute walk from the bus into Panthers.

Please note: Reimbursement for any travel expenses is not available.

Feedback from 2010 and 2011

The 2010 and 2011 conferences were a great success and we have had highly complimentary feedback from delegates.

Overall the feedback indicated appreciation of the opportunity to attend such a conference and appreciation for the recognition of professional staff contributions to UWS.
