Dr Jacqueline Ullman

Biography

Jacqueline (Jackie) Ullman (neé Mikulsky) received her PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Sydney in 2007.  Since 2005, Jackie has been teaching both undergraduates and postgraduates in education foundational studies as well as research methods in education and has supervised a number of higher degree research students through thesis completion.

As a lecturer in Adolescent Development and Well-Being, Jackie teaches in the Positive Learning Environments unit for Master of Teaching candidates, as well as in the Young People, Their Futures and Education unit for undergraduates in the Education Studies major.  Jackie brings her classroom experiences to her lectures, having worked as a secondary school teacher in an under-funded Manhattan public school for a number of years.

Jackie's research focus links well to her teaching practice, as she examines issues of school climate, school-based social relationships, and belonging, as they relate to motivation, academic self-concept and related school behaviours for marginalised secondary school students.  Jackie's most recent research work has examined the impact of new digital media, including social networks, online, collaborative spaces, and video games, on social and civic responsibility for American youth.
