Dr Suzanna Roffey
Dr Sue Roffey gained her Doctorate from the University of East London in January 2000. Her thesis was on the views and constructs of parents and carers of children with behavioural difficulties concerning their interactions with schools.
Her findings formed part of an edited book (2002) entitled School Behaviour and Families: Frameworks for working together, published by David Fulton.
Sue is an educational psychologist with a particular interest in behavioural issues in schools. This has led to an increasing focus on school and student wellbeing, social and emotional learning and relational quality in schools. She was awarded a grant by UWS in 2003 to explore emotional literacy in 6 Australian schools in NSW and Victoria. She was a consultant on the Federal scoping study on student wellbeing in 2008 funded by DEEWR and again on the Federal scoping study on social and emotional learning in 2009.
Sue has been developing a pedagogy for social and emotional learning entitled Circle Time Solutions and was awarded a small grant by the NSW Department of Education in 2008 to evaluate a learning through community service initiative supporting this pedagogy in 8 Greater Western Sydney Schools. The analysis and report by Professor McCarthy was very positive about the potential for increasing wellbeing and promoting pro-social behaviour. Sue is currently involved with an evaluation of KiDSCAN, a NAPCAN initiative to promote the engagement of children within their communities.
Sue is the author of 8 books on behavioural / social / emotional issues in schools and the three teachers’ resource books for the Whole Child primary school program (Pearson Rigby). She has also published widely on these issues in the educational media.
Sue is on the council for the National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect and the advisory board of the Wellbeing Australia network. She is also an accredited provider of professional development for the NSW Institute of Teachers.
She is on the editorial board of Educational and Child Psychology and has edited two recent editions, one on psychological wellbeing (2008) and the other on In-school relationships and their outcomes (2010)
She is currently writing Changing Behaviour in Schools: Relationships and Wellbeing (Sage) and editor for Positive Relationships: Evidence based practice across the world (Springer)
