Further information
Any student enrolled at UWS can enrol in SLU workshops. These workshops are offered free of charge and are presented by the academic staff of the Student Learning Unit.
The hyperlink to the workshop descriptions can be found at the top of this page. Read the information on each workshop carefully before you register. It will include specific information about:
Please note that many of the general workshops offered at the beginning of the semester present the same information as that covered in the AcPrep and UniStep programs. If you have attended the AcPrep or Unistep program, please check the workshop description to determine if the workshop you are interested in is appropriate for you.
Each semester, SLU offers a variety of workshops throughout UWS. However, due to student interest and staff availability, the number and type of workshops offered on a specific campus may vary from semester to semester.
You are welcome to register for any workshop we offer, not only those on your home campus. Use the Online Workshop Registration System to determine where a session of the workshop you are interested in attending will be presented.
The SLU has implemented an online registration system for all its workshops. You can access this system from any computer with an internet connection. More information can be found on the Workshop Registration page.
Venues are displayed when you register through the Online Workshop Registration System page. Also, when you register for a workshop, a confirmation letter will be emailed to you containing that information.
The generic workshops are especially useful for students beginning university study, because the writing requirements will be very different from high school or TAFE. However, returning students are also welcome to attend, as students encounter different types of academic writing and assessment at different points in their university studies.
Use your unit outline to determine whether or not a workshop will be helpful to you with your coursework. Consider the types of assignments you are required to do and the types of writing you have done in the past.
Consider organising your own workshop. SLU staff can help you design a workshop for a small group (between 5 and 15 students). If you and other people in your classes have missed out on a workshop because of scheduling conflicts, or if you need assistance targeted to a specific subject or assignment, this may be the best option for you.
