Applying for leave and resigning from your course

Taking a leave of absence

A leave of absence is a temporary break from studying. Once you have successfully completed one or more units in your enrolled course, you can apply for a leave of absence. A leave of absence can be taken as either six or twelve months. The maximum amount of leave you can take during your course is twelve months.

To apply for a leave of absence, you'll need to fill out the Leave of absence section of a Discontinuation or break from studies form, available online or at any Student Central. You must lodge your application at a Student Central. Make sure you lodge your application before the session census date to avoid academic or financial penalty.

Once your leave of absence is approved, we will send a confirmation email to your student email account.

Returning to study after your leave of absence

All you have to do is make sure you're enrolled for the next teaching session and start going to class.
