The 2012 student contribution amounts are set for students who commenced a unit of study with a census date on or after 1 January 2012. These amounts are based on the discipline area for the unit of study and the rate set by each higher education provider.
Your student contribution amount will be calculated on a per unit basis and is dependent on the discipline area of the unit of study, not the course you are enrolled in. To find out the discipline area of each of your units visit the Handbook page for that unit. More instructions on this are available from the Student contribution calculations page.
The Student Contribution amount for each band is outlined below. It details the amount for an equivalent full time study load (EFTSL) for one year for each band and the approximate amount per a standard 10 credit point unit.
To work out the exact cost of your Student Contribution for the semester or year go to the Student contribution calculations page.

Student contribution amounts are different for students studying certain discipline areas who have enrolled prior to 2012. Please check if you fall into one of the following categories
From 1 January 2010, the maximum annual student contribution amount for commencing Commonwealth supported students undertaking Education and Nursing increased from the National Priority (NP) rate to the Band 1 rate.
The increased maximum annual student contribution amounts will only affect students who commence their course of study at a higher education provider on or after 1 January 2010.
Students who commenced their study before 1 January 2010 will not be affected by the increase. For pre-2010 students, the maximum student contribution that may be charged for Education and Nursing units is $4,520.00.
For pre-2009 students, the maximum student contribution amount that may be charged for mathematics, statistics and science units is $8,050.00.
The reduced maximum student contribution amount for units of study in mathematics, statistics and science applies to all students who commence their course of study on or after 1 January 2009, regardless of the course of study.
The national priority maximum student contribution amount will also apply to continuing students who transfer to a Natural and Physical Sciences course of study from a non Natural and Physical Sciences course of study.
For pre-2008 students, the maximum student contribution that may be charged for Accounting, Administration, Economics and Commerce units for 2012 is $8,050.00. This amount applies to Commonwealth supported students who began their study before 1 January 2008.
The arrangements for pre 2008 students apply until the end of 2012.
