Online Special Consideration & Deferred Exam form

What is the Special Consideration & Deferred Exam eForm?

The Special Consideration & Deferred Exam eForm has replaced the following paper forms:

  1. Deferred Examination Application
  2. Special Consideration During Teaching Session
  3. Final Examination Special Consideration Application
  4. Final Deferred Examination Special Consideration Application

When you open the eForm, you must complete the checklist at the beginning. This checklist will make sure your application goes to the right area for processing.

When do I apply for Special Consideration?

If there are times during your studies when you feel your academic performance has been effected by severe and/or grave illness, misadventure, accident, or extenuating circumstances beyond your control, you can apply to have ‘Special Consideration’ given to your assessments/performance.

You may seek Special Consideration for an assessment task or tasks, or for your attendance or overall performance in a unit or units or in a final exam or final deferred exam. You can find more information on the Special Consideration webpage.

When do I apply for a Deferred Exam?

If you are unable to attend a final exam due to a serious illness, misadventure or other exceptional circumstance beyond your control you can apply for a deffered exam. A Deferred Examination Application form must be lodged online no later than 5.00pm on the second working day after your scheduled exam.  You can find more information on the Deferred exams webpage.

Completing your online application

  1. Log into MyUWS and click the 'eForms' link on the left menu
  2. You will then enter a system called the 'eForms Centre'. Click the 'Find Forms' button, then select 'Special Consideration/Deferred Exam' form from the list of online forms available 
  3. The form will then open. Complete the form, including attaching supporting documents. You must have a 'soft copy' of your supporting documents (i.e. scanned copy) so you can upload them with your application 
  4. Submit the form online. You will receive an email (to your student email account) acknowledging that your application has been successfully submitted 
  5. You will also receive an email notification advising you of the outcome of your request

How to apply for a Deferred Exam

If you're applying for a deferred exam because you have been unable to attend your final exam, please resubmit a new application and ensure you select the following in Section 1 Checklist:

  • Are you applying for Special Consideration for an assignment task during semester? * No
    (By selecting 'yes' you are intending to apply for Special Consideration, by selecting 'no' you may be directed to a deferred exam application)
  • Did you miss a compulsory class attendance or practical exam? * No
  • Are you applying for a Deferred Exam for your final end of session exam? * Yes
  • Has your personal main exam timetable been published in PlatformWeb? * Yes
  • Has your personal exam timetable been released through your School? * No
  • Did you attempt the end of session final exam? * No
  • Are you able to attend a Deferred Exam? * Yes
    (Deferred exam dates are available on the University of Western Sydney website)

Supporting documentation

All applications for Special Consideration must contain appropriate supporting documentation to substantiate the circumstances that are impacting on your studies. Applications without supporting documentation will not be considered.

How to submit your supporting documentation

You must have an electronic copy of your supporting documents to your application and submit them as part of the online process. Hard copy documents will not be accepted. You must submit all of your supporting documentation at the same time when you submit your application.

For auditing purposes you must keep either the original or certified copy of all supporting documentation you attach for at least one year. The University conducts audits to validate the information students provide in their applications. You may be contacted anytime within one year of submitting your application and required to produce either the original or a certified copy of all supporting documentation.
