Deferred exams
Dear Counselling,
I am currently in a relationship and it has been very difficult for me lately. Four months ago we moved in together and ever since then, things have spiralled out of control. We fight a lot and it’s emotionally tormenting. I feel as though I am suffering from depression. It has affected my studies, taking away my motivation and making me mentally exhausted; my class attendance has been sporadic and even today I did not sit an exam because of how depressed I feel. I know I will need to apply for special consideration because of my missed exam but I am unsure how to go about it. I just feel lost and need someone to talk to. - Anonymous
I can understand how the trouble in your relationship is affecting your wellbeing and impacting on your studies. It’s not easy to talk about, so I’m glad that you decided to reach out today and tell someone how you feel.
As you missed your exam today, you will need to put in a Deferred Exam Application form [PDF, 156Kb] (opens in a new window). You will need to supply certified supporting documentation. This means for medical and psychological reasons, as in your case, you will need to visit your doctor and have them complete section 5 of the form. You must lodge the form at Student Central before 5pm on the second working day following the exam. More information is available on the Deferred exam webpage.
Your situation is difficult to deal with all on your own. I’d encourage you to make an appointment to see a counsellor face to face. That way we can discuss your situation in more detail and see if there are further ways we can support you in getting through the session.
