Exams and Academic Integration Plan exam adjustments
Exam adjustments on your Academic Integration Plan (AIP) apply to both School run exams and end of session exams, unless otherwise specified in your AIP (e.g. ‘Does not apply for School run exams of less than 30 minutes duration’). School run exams include in-class tests, midsession exams, online quizzes, practical exams and supplementary exams. End of session exams include final exams and deferred exams.
School run exams
The Unit Coordinator is responsible for implementing your adjustments for School run exams. However, it is important that you approach or email the Unit Coordinator at least two weeks before the date of an exam to advise them of your AIP and exam adjustments. The Unit Coordinator will arrange your AIP adjustments for all School run exams. If you need a separate room the Unit Coordinator will book a room and Exam Supervisor/Scribe at least two weeks prior to the exam. Alternatively, the Unit Coordinator may supervise your exam in an office within the School or in their own office. If you have not been notified of the location of your exam two weeks before the scheduled exam, contact your Unit Coordinator via email to ask where and when you will be sitting your exam.
Take a copy of your AIP to the exam and do not start the exam until all of the adjustments stated on the AIP are in place (e.g. additional time, provision of computer). If you choose to sit a school run exam without any or all of your adjustments you must inform the Unit Coordinator in writing that you have chosen to do this. We recommend you speak to your Disability Advisor before deciding to sit an exam without your adjustments. The Unit Coordinator must provide all your exam adjustments as stated on the AIP unless otherwise dvised in writing by you. If you experience any problems having your adjustments implemented for an exam, contact the Disability Advisor immediately if possible or no later than two days after the scheduled date of your exam.
End of session exams
The Assessment and Graduations Unit arranges all AIP adjustments for end of session exams. Check the final exam timetable on PlatformWeb to confirm your times, sessions and exam room locations. Email IEAexams@uws.edu.au immediately if you believe any adjustments are not in place.
Take a copy of your AIP to the exam and check with the exam supervisor that all your exam adjustments are in place. Do not start the exam until all of the adjustments stated on the AIP are in place (e.g. additional time, provision of computer).
If problems with implementing your adjustments occur during the exam, alert the exam supervisor in the first instance. If these problems persist, check that the exam supervisor has alerted the Assessment team and has documented the problem in their report. If you were not able to start your exam or you encountered problems with your adjustments being implemented, contact the Disability Advisor immediately if possible or no later than two days after the scheduled date of the exam.
If you need changes to your existing exam adjustments, please note that all AIP exam adjustments must be finalised 30 days before the final exam period starts:
- Autumn Session - 30 April
- Spring Session - 30 September
New or amended exam adjustments issued after these dates will require you to sit a deferred exam so the updated adjustments can be implemented. Changes to exam adjustments must be supported by medical evidence.
If you require a deferred exam because of changes to AIP exam adjustments after the cut off dates, the Disability Advisor will support your application and it can be submitted through them.
