Study support
Pre admission advice
We offer advice to anyone with a disability or chronic health condition who's thinking about studying at UWS. You can make an appointment to see us or have a chat during UWS Open Day.
We'll talk to you about your needs, the course criteria and any adjustments you'd need. We can also tell you about the services available to you at UWS.
Academic Integration Plans (AIPs)
An Academic Integration Plan (AIP) lists all the adjustments that must be made for you. It covers all classes and exams. It's written by a disability advisor, based on your initial assessment and the documents you gave us.
Your AIP won't include any details about your condition. All AIPs are reviewed regularly to make sure they continue to meet your needs.
Educational Support Service (ESS) staff
You might be assigned an Educational Support Service (ESS) staff member. ESS staff include:
- academic note takers - take notes in lectures, tutorials and practicals. May be for a whole unit or one student
- readers - meet with you on campus. They read any required class material while you record them
- practical assistants - assist in necessary practical tasks in classes or on campus
- sign interpreters - for students who are hearing impaired or deaf. They assist during classes and assessments
