How do I choose the right workshop?

The hyperlink to the workshop descriptions can be found at the top of this page. Read the information on each workshop carefully before you register. It will include specific information about:

  • What information will be presented in the workshop
  • Who the target audience is for the workshop (e.g. first year students, returning students, etc)
  • Whether the workshop repeats information offered in other workshops or programs.

Please note that many of the general workshops offered at the beginning of the session present the same information as that covered in the AcPrep and UniStep programs. If you have attended the AcPrep or Unistep program, please check the workshop description to determine if the workshop you are interested in is appropriate for you.

Venues are displayed when you register through the online workshop registration page. Also, when you register for a workshop, a confirmation letter will be emailed to you containing that information.

Are the workshops only for first year students?

The generic workshops are especially useful for students beginning university study, because the writing requirements will be very different from high school or TAFE. However, returning students are also welcome to attend, as students encounter different types of academic writing and assessment at different points in their university studies.

Use your unit outline to determine whether or not a workshop will be helpful to you with your coursework. Consider the types of assignments you are required to do and the types of writing you have done in the past.
