Maths support
Studying mathematics, statistics or numeracy at university requires a lot of your time and effort but you can't always do it by yourself - sometimes you need some extra help. Specific maths workshops are available (mathematics & statistics, Nursing numeracy). If you have any concerns, contact the Mathematics Education Support Hub (MESH) at mesh@uws.edu.au.
Mathematics and statistics - session workshops
During each session, workshops in mathematics and statistics are run for students wanting to improve their maths/statistics/numeracy skills for a particular unit. The workshops can be for a range of maths, statistics and also maths-related subjects in economics, science or engineering. They are particularly aimed at students who want help with the assumed mathematical knowledge of any unit they are studying. You can find out what workshops are available and book yourself into a workshop through the Workshop Registration page.
Some of the units we can help you with are:
- Fundamentals of Mathematics
- Statistics for Business, Statistics for Science, Quantitative Research, Biometry, Experimental Design and Analysis 1
- Mathematics for Business
- Mathematics for Engineers 1 & 2
- Concepts of Mathematics
- plus other units as well
Nursing numeracy support program - session workshops & winter workshops
For first year nursing students, there is a maths program as part of the units 'Nursing Health & Wellbeing' (Autumn Session) and 'Nursing & Health Breakdown' (Spring Session). It is made up of diagnostic tests, tutorials, session workshops, and our 3-day winter workshops in July.
The nursing numeracy winter workshops for students going into 'Nursing & Health Breakdown' are held in July on all campuses where the Bachelor of Nursing degree runs.
We also support nursing students with session workshops. You can find out what workshops are available and book yourself into a semester or winter workshop through the Workshop Registration page.
Mathematics Education Support Hub (MESH)
MESH provides UWS students at all stages in their courses of study, with mathematics and statistics support. This website provides resources to for students who want to:
- revise or ‘brush-up’ on their basic mathematical skills
- understand and practice the mathematical calculations underpinning their discipline area/s
- gain statistical skills for their industry
Build your confidence in using mathematics by engaging in the activities provided on the MESH hub.
