When and how long?

If you've received an offer to an undergraduate course you can defer your enrolment for 6 or 12 months, depending on whether your offer is for the Autumn (start year) or Spring (mid year) session.

You are able to defer offers to undergraduate, postgraduate coursework and UWSCollege courses. The following deferment options are available:

  • Autumn and 1H session offers can be deferred for a maximum of 12 months
  • Spring and 2H session offers can be deferred for a maximum of 6 months
  • Quarter 1 offers can be deferred until Quarter 1 of the following year*
  • Quarter 2 offers can be deferred until Quarter 1 of the following year*
  • Quarter 3 offers can be deferred until Quarter 1 of the following year*
  • Quarter 4 offers can be deferred until Quarter 1 of the following year*
  • UWSCollege offers for Term 1 can be deferred for a maximum of 12 months
  • UWSCollege offers for Term 2 and Term N can be deferred for a maximum of 8 months.

Applications to defer an offer must be made through OSCAS by the advertised closing date and the deferment fee of $100.00 must be paid before the deferment is processed.

Deferments will expire at the end of the specified period. Deferment in a course does not guarantee that the course will be available the following year. If a course is cancelled, deferred students will be offered a place in an alternative course.

*Deferred offers for Quarters may be taken up earlier than indicated if places in the course are available at the time you wish to resume your studies.
