Step 5 Check your timetable

You are responsible for accessing and checking timetable information to work out where and when units are offered by viewing the UWS timetable page (via PlatformWeb). You will not receive any kind of hard copy timetable from Academic staff.

It is a good idea to check this information as part of your unit selection research, as it will display lectures, tutorials and classes that you need to attend as part of your enrolment. When you have enrolled, your units will appear in PlatformWeb. You can also view the timetable information for each unit from PlatformWeb.

At this point make a list of the tutorials you want to go to so you will be ready when tutorial registration opens.

What is the difference between a tutorial and a lecture?

Lecture

A lecture is normally held in a large room or lecture theatre with many students and one lecturer. Students are expected to take relevant notes during the lecture.

Tutorial

A tutorial is a small class where set readings and lecture materials are discussed in detail each week. Students sometimes have to lead tutorial discussions or make presentations. You need to register to attend tutorials for most units.

Tutorial Registration

Tutorial Registration is another online process separate to enrolment where you register to attend tutorials for your units. You need to complete this process because most units have options for different times for tutorials and/or practical classes so you have to choose and register for the time you want.

Key dates and opening times

Registration in different units opens at different times between 16-19 July. You must be enrolled in your units correctly in MySR before Tutorial Registration starts otherwise you won't be able to register for tutorials.

Each School and unit level have a different opening time. Places in certain tutorials can be in high demand and quite competitive. The earlier you register, the more choice of times and days you may have. Find out more on the Tutorial Registration webpage

Higher Degree Research students

If you are a Higher Degree Research student, your Step 5 is a bit different. Instead of working out your timetable, you need to contact your Principal Supervisor to commence research study. You will also need to complete the Confirmation of Research Commencement Date form to confirm the start date of your research.
