Yes, you can. However, forwarding University emails to a non-UWS email account will be at your own risk. You must always use your MyMail address when contacting the University by email as UWS staff can only accept and respond to emails sent from official UWS student email addresses. It is highly recommended that you check your MyMail inbox on a regular basis to ensure mail is being received and forwarded and that your storage capacity has not reached its limit.
As per UWS policy (opens in a new window), you must check your student email frequently.
It is also highly recommended that you set your private account to always respond to incoming UWS mail by using your connected MyMail address.
For instructions on setting your private Gmail account to send mail using your MyMail address please see the following Gmail pages:
Further information on automatically forwarding your student emails is available from the Microsoft help page on automatically forwarding emails to another account.
| UWS will not be responsible for the handling of email by other email service providers and will not guarantee delivery to forwarding addresses or monitor and/or manage undeliverable messages. |

Exchange ActiveSync, IMAP4 and POP3 are protocols available for delivering mail to your device. UWS recommends using Exchange ActiveSync or IMAP4 protocol methods to connect to your MyMail account. Exchange ActiveSync synchronises your device and MyMail, so they both show the same content. Note: To access MyMail from your device, you’ll need an internet data plan. Contact your phone company or Internet Services Provider for information on plans and costs. Due to the large variety of mobile devises currently available, the process of setting up and connecting your MyMail account to your mobile phone cannot be supported by the UWS IT Service Desk. If you require assistance with this process, contact your mobile device provider or visit Microsoft Live. |
You will lose access to your MyUWS Account and related systems 60 days after graduation or ceasing study. If you create an Exchange Labs (Window Live ID) password you will however be able to continue to access MyMail through Microsoft. This access is delivered through https://outlook.com. Your Exchange Labs (Window Live ID) password is different from your MyUWSAccount password and will be held and managed by Microsoft.
Once you have activated your MyMail account you can set your Window Live ID password and your challenge response questions.
More information is also available from the Microsoft help pages (opens in a new window).
As your account will be owned by Microsoft, this process cannot be supported by the UWS IT Service Desk. If you require assistance with this process, visit Microsoft Live.
Items that you delete go into the Deleted Items folder where they can be recovered if necessary. Items will stay in the Deleted Items folder until you manually clean them out. Once emptied from the Deleted Items folder you can recover them for a further 14 days, after which the item is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. No, it is a condition of your enrolment as a UWS student that you, activate and check your MyMail student email account. MyMail is the new official UWS student email system and the official communication channel between you and the University for important information relating to your enrolment, exams, results, graduation and University news. You must check your email regularly, at least twice weekly is recommended. If you don't check your student email regularly, you will miss important messages which may affect your enrolment at UWS. Please note: Although Microsoft Live@edu allows attachments of 20MB, the current UWS version is limited to 10MB. This will be reviewed after implementation. Care should however be taken when sending large attachments as many users and organisations, including UWS, are unable to accept large attachments. Unless you know your recipient can accept large attachments, you should keep attachments to less than 5MB. You may need to make alternative arrangements to submit assignments and other large documents to UWS
