Student email upgrade

Upgrade details

The student email system is scheduled to be upgraded over the weekend of 28 June-1 July 2013. Your student email will be available during the upgrade weekend, but there are some steps you may need to take before the upgrade that are explained on this page. Important details:

  • The upgrade is taking place from 5:00pm Friday, 28 June to 9:00am Monday, 1 July
  • If you've stored files in SkyDrive, you must move them out of SkyDrive before the upgrade or you will permanently lose any data saved
  • Your account will update to the new look over the upgrade weekend

After the upgrade:

  • Your email address, password, inbox and email history will remain the same
  • You will still access your email via the MyUWS Student Portal
  • You will still be able to access your email from a mobile device
  • Optional Microsoft services (SkyDrive, Messenger) can only be accessed from www.skydrive.com (if you set up your access before the upgrade)
  • The Microsoft Office 365 logo will be displayed instead of the UWS logo

Enhancements to email

The student email upgrade will provide the following enhancements to student email:

  • Your maximum inbox size will be increased from 10GB to 25GB
  • Maximum attachment sizes will increase from 5MB to 10MB
  • You will be able to send up to 100 attachments
  • Maximum email size limit will increase to 25MB

Action you need to take

Update your mobile device (iPad, smart phone)

If you access your student email via a mobile device (e.g. iPad or smart phone) you must update any shortcuts or favourites to this URL https://www.outlook.com/students.uws.edu.au before 5:00pm Friday, 28 June.

Update your software

You may need to update your software to meet the new system requirements before the upgrade if you use:

  • Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7 – upgrade to Internet Explorer 8 or later
  • Outlook 2003 – upgrade to a later version
  • Mail.App – remove and re-add your old account profile using full Exchange functionality
  • iOS – modify the server settings to point to mail.outlook.com
  • Android – completely remove and re-add your corporate/activesync account

Move files from SkyDrive

If you've stored files in SkyDrive, you must move them out of SkyDrive before the upgrade or you will permanently lose any data saved.

If you wish to keep access to SkyDrive, Messenger and other optional Microsoft services, you must follow the steps outlined on the Optional Microsoft services webpage before the upgrade.

UWS recommends that students use the Dropbox application for internet based storage. More information about Dropbox is available on the iPad suggested apps webpage.

Updating your password
