Optional Microsoft services

SkyDrive, Messenger and other optional services

After the student email upgrade (28 June-1 July), the optional Microsoft services (including SkyDrive and Messenger) will no longer be available through your UWS student email account.

If you wish to retain access to these optional Microsoft services using your UWS username and password, you must follow the steps outlined below before 5:00pm Friday, 28 June.

Action required to retain your access

  1. Set an external password on your existing student email account (if you haven’t already) by calling the IT Service Desk on 9852 5111 (ext 5111)
  2. Log in via the web browser at http://skydrive.com
  3. Link a personal email account to this account so you can reset your password if you forget it

Impact if you don’t take action before the upgrade

  • You will permanently lose access to these services via your student email account
  • You will permanently lose your Messenger contacts and any data saved in SkyDrive (using your UWS email account to access them)
  • UWS IT Services won't be able to give you access to these services

After the upgrade

  • You will only be able to access these services via http://skydrive.com/
  • Your access will be linked to a new Personal Microsoft account
  • This personal SkyDrive account will be administered by Microsoft and not UWS
  • It won't be linked to your UWS student email account
  • It won’t have an inbox or email account
  • You will still use your UWS student ID and password (at the time of the upgrade) to log in
  • UWS IT Services won’t be able to give you access to your personal SkyDrive account or help you reset your password after the upgrade
  • You will need to have linked a personal email account to your personal SkyDrive account so you can reset your password
  • You will need to follow the instructions at https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx to reset your password

Note: UWS recommends that students use the Dropbox application for internet based storage. More information about Dropbox is available on the iPad suggested apps webpage.
