The Master of Teaching Honours program in Education requires students to meet some requirements. Students who have the required Grade Point Average (GPA) at the end of the first semester of a given year of a Master of Teaching course, or who have been advised that they meet the criteria for admission, will be eligible to take up study in the Honours program.
What is Master of Teaching Honours?
It is desirable that students intending to study for Honours in education have completed education units in an undergraduate degree and a Master of Teaching. Students without this background will, however, be considered if they can demonstrate that their prior studies have established their capacity in critical analysis and in the construction of an argument..
Where will Honours be delivered?
Honours units may be delivered on Bankstown and on Penrith campus. There will be online components as well.
Fees
The Master of Teaching Honours is HECS based for eligible Australian residents when the program follows the completion of the Master of Teaching Program. Later applications and international students are subject to up-front fees.
Why do Honours in Education?
The Honours program combines research training units with research experience and the chance to become a member of the School of Education research community. The three research training units are: Understanding Educational Research, Education Research Methods and Design, and Education Research Seminar. These units prepare for the task of writing a thesis on a topic negotiated between the student and a Supervisor or Supervisory Panel. The research training helps students formulate research questions, apply suitable research designs to a selected problem, and review literature relating to the intended research project.
The units provide an introduction to the research methods used in educational research. They are practical units where students develop the knowledge and skills to develop research instruments and collect and analyse data with a variety of data collection tools. An Honours degree offers a pathway for those students who wish to go on to higher degree research.
