Primary Teaching Program
Our Primary Teaching Program
All students need teachers who have a strong understanding and knowledge of the theories and practices surrounding quality and engaging classrooms. Our team also recognizes that students from diverse and low SES backgrounds are often more in need of a caring, theoretically informed and creative teacher who can engage students in learning experiences of high intellectual quality. The Primary Teaching Program at UWS brings together these ideas in a program that prepares teachers to be future focused, energetic and enterprising, and ready to work productively for the diversity of students in Sydney’s Greater West and beyond.
Our courses provide a strong background in the learning needs of individual children at different academic levels and from different social and cultural backgrounds. Students are involved in authentic learning experiences across all NSW Key Learning Areas in curriculum units and are encouraged to develop engaging teaching practices in pedagogy units. Graduates from the Primary Program at UWS are recognized for their readiness and eagerness to teach and are highly sought after by schools in our region, in NSW and in other states of Australia. Many of our students find rewarding careers overseas.
