Our Secondary Teaching Program

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree helps to shape individuals with a passion for their particular subject area into teachers who are confident and skilled education practitioners. UWS teaching graduates are able to cater for the tremendous academic, social, cultural and linguistic diversity of young people in western Sydney and more broadly throughout NSW, Australia and increasing the world. The Master of Teaching (Secondary) is a professional qualifying degree that capitalises upon the detailed subject-specific knowledge already developed through undergraduate (and relevant post-graduate) studies. It is a course that offers intensive and rewarding experiences with the focus on becoming a curriculum specialist teacher in secondary schools.

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) combines a variety of on-campus experiences with field-based and on-line learning opportunities. Units are delivered by highly experienced educators, researchers and practising teachers, who are all experts on how young people think and learn. The UWS approach is to embed best practice principles, with opportunities for course participants to begin to create next practice with its emphasis upon creativity and innovation.

The Master of Teaching (Secondary) has been accredited by the NSW Institute of Teachers. The degree has been designed to meet the Professional Teaching Standards for a Graduate Teacher within the NSW Institute of Teachers Professional Standards Framework. Graduates of the Master of teaching (Secondary) are highly sought after by both public and private education providers in NSW and in other states of Australia as well as by education providers throughout Asia, Europe and the Americas.
