
Dr Maggie Clarke was a secondary school teacher for nineteen years in the Western Sydney region of Sydney. She held leadership positions in schools including Leading Teacher and Acting Principal. She worked with the NSW Department of Education in a regional office in the capacity of professional assistant to a Regional Director. Dr Clarke was appointed to the University of Western Sydney in 1997. She is currently Chair of the School of Education School Academic Committee (part of the University of Western Sydney’s academic governance structure), and a member on the University’s Senate Committee. She is Head of Learning and Teaching in the School of Education. Working at UWS since 1997 she has undertaken the responsibilities of Academic Co-ordinator of Professional Experiences in three programs and she has been Chair of the School of Education Professional Experiences Committee. Dr Clarke has been a Unit Co-ordinator for a number of courses and has played a key leadership role in unit development. Her teaching has been in the disciplines of education and psychology and in particular in the areas of secondary education and pedagogies.
Dr. Clarke’s research interests are in professional learning particularly related to the practices of mentoring, reflection and portfolio development. Her current research interest is in the area of communities of practice. Her research has been published in international and national journals. Dr Clarke’s research on mentoring has been acknowledged in a number of published works and invitations as key note speaker as well as in a variety of consultancy projects.
