Jane Hunter

Biography

In February 2010 I joined the academic staff in Primary Education in the School of Education at the University of Western Sydney. Prior to this appointment I worked as a Senior Officer in various technology, professional teaching standards and curriculum projects in the NSW Department of Education and Training. I am particularly interested in technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPCK), new media, Productive Pedagogies and Quality Teaching, civics and citizenship, teacher professional learning, and the induction of new teachers into the profession.

For many years I taught in the Master of Teaching and Overseas Trained Teachers Program at the University of Sydney, and immediately before that position I was a teacher in schools in NSW, the ACT and the United Kingdom.

The challenge of how teachers’ effectively embed new technologies into learning is a particular focus of my research. The opportunity to work alongside teachers in classrooms in various professional learning projects in recent years has been invaluable, and I endeavour to 'model' what I have learned from this experience in my own teaching practice. Interested in ‘student voice’ and practitioner research, I am a keen member of the Coalition of Knowledge Building Schools. I belong to various professional teaching associations and co-ordinate the Australian Academic Research in Education SIG for information and communication technologies.
