Eric Jamieson

Eric JamisonEric has had extensive experience as an educator for over 30 years with the NSW Department of Education and Communities. During this time, he has worked in many leadership roles and has made substantial contributions, particularly in the areas of improving student learning outcomes and in developing evidence-based practice in schools.  A result of his work has been the development an embedded culture in NSW public education in which learning outcomes data analysis is used to inform practice, along with stronger review and evaluation practices. A further example of his work has been with the 52 schools in the Mount Druitt area, helping to facilitate outstanding improvements in learning outcomes across these schools. His passion for improving educational outcomes, particularly for students in Western Sydney schools, led to him taking on the role of principal at Plumpton High School in 2004. During his time as principal Eric has led the school through a complete transformation and reinvigoration. This has resulted in dramatically improved academic performance, attendance and retention rates, with the demand for enrolment at the school now double the number of positions available.

Eric’s leadership experience has included leading principals and managing regional portfolios in various substantive and relieving roles. In 2011, he received the Director General’s Award for Outstanding Leadership and the Western Sydney Regional Director’s Award for Outstanding Leadership.

Eric is currently in the role of Director (Acting), Educational Measurement and School Accountability Directorate, with responsibility for leading the implementation of the National Assessment Program in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory, along with leading state based school review, assessment and analysis functions.
