UWS Equity and Diversity Plan 2008 - 2010

The UWS Equity and Diversity Plan articulates the University's commitment to making a difference to the lives of students staff and the broader community of Greater Western Sydney by supporting equity and valuing the diversity of the community.  The Plan aims to meet the needs of individuals and communities through strategies that are relevant, innovative and continually improving.

The Equity and Diversity Plan 2008 - 2010 proposes to:

  • fulfill a strategic leadership role in supporting the facilitation and delivery of the UWS's key values and strategic priorities over the next three years.
  • deliver quality services to the University's internal and external communities.
  • ensure the University's standing as an institution of equity, diversity and social justice.
  • embed compliance and legislative obligations in a collaborative model, operating on the premise that equity, diversity and social justice obligations are every member of the University's responsibility.
  • strive for excellence, quality, integrity, collegiality and relevance to the community in all of its endeavours.
  • contribute to the UWS Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan by incorporating UWS wide initiatives of community engagement; retention and research.
  • position UWS to seek community and corporate alliances with external partners in the field.
  • feature collaborative projects and initiatives with key stakeholders within UWS, converging in joint achievement.
  • achieve maximum benefits from the use of University resources.

The Equity and Diversity Plan 2008 - 2010 details the:

  • key developments in Divisional support which have arisen out of direct discussions with Colleges on the assistance they need from specific units in the Division to successfully implement the college's key directions.
  • relationship stakeholders responsible for actioning the projected strategies.
  • Key/responses to the University's Strategic Directions of UWS and the Making the Difference Strategy.
  • focus and benefit of each key development.
  • justification of its central importance to UWS derived from sources of evidence.
  • plan of action/ development priority/key activities/milestones for 2008-20010 and proposed tracking and improvement.

4.3 Develop and implement internal  policy that matches best practice, tailored to the UWS environment

5. To provide opportunities for adopting flexible practices for staff and students 5.1 Develop employment practices that provide flexible work practices options
5.2 Develop a range of study options that develop flexible study delivery
5.3 Develop protocols in consultation with the University community in relation to adjustment plans for staff and students
6. To promote skill and career development for equity and diversity target groups 6.1 Identify barriers to career progression for equity and diversity target groups

7. To specify equity and diversity performance indicators in position descriptions for managers and supervisors 7.1 Include equity and diversity performance indicators in all employment offers for UWS managers and supervisors
8. To integrate equity and diversity principles into all relevant staff and student learning and development programs and inform all employees and students about related obligations, policies, procedures and programs within UWS 8.1 Integrate equity and diversity principles into all appropriate training programs
8.2 Develop ongoing , robust learning and development strategy for all UWS employees and students
