Expressions of interest have now closed for the next round of Internal Job Exchange.

Would you like an opportunity to experience life in another work unit? Would you like to broaden your experience across the University and open career development opportunities for your future? Why not think about applying for an Internal Job Exchange!

If you are interested in gaining professional and career development by temporarily exchanging jobs with a staff member of the same HEW level, please discuss the program with your supervisor and submit an expression of interest.

The Internal Job Exchange program is an initiative of the University’s Our People 2015 staffing strategy, and enables suitably qualified and skilled General staff of the same HEW level to exchange positions for an agreed period of time.

The University recognises the important relationships between Colleges, Schools and Divisions. The program provides an opportunity for employees to increase their organisational knowledge by participating in a job exchange within or between the Colleges, Schools or Divisions.

This represents a valuable professional and career development opportunity for staff to broaden their knowledge, skills and experience.

Employees must be able to demonstrate that they meet the core requirements of the job exchange position according to the Position Description, including any specified qualifications, experience and skills. Both employees’ supervisors must support the exchange.

How does it work?

Interested employees should forward an expression of interest via the online expression of interest form. The Internal Job Exchange Coordinator will liaise with applicants and their supervisors to facilitate potential exchanges.  Staff identified as a potential candidate for job exchange will be requested to forward an application (PDF, 85Kb), attaching their resume and current Position Description, to their supervisor for endorsement.

The employee can submit their application once it has been endorsed by their supervisor and the Director/Executive Dean/Head of their College/School/Division.

Applications (PDF, 85Kb) will be assessed by an Internal Job Exchange panel which will identify potential exchanges.

While the University recognises the importance and value of job exchange opportunities, an exchange may not be possible in all circumstances.

An Internal Job Exchange Agreement (PDF, 79Kb) must be signed by employees exchanging jobs and the Director/Executive Dean/Head of each College/School/Division. The Position Description for both positions will be attached to the agreement. The agreement outlines the employee's responsibilities, work plan and development plan for the period of the exchange, as well as the terms and conditions (e.g. duration) of the exchange.

The Internal Job Exchange Coordinator will notify the Office of Human Resources of exchange arrangements so that employee records are updated.

Eligibility

Staff applying for a job exchange must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • General staff in ongoing positions
  • Completion of a minimum of 12 months of continuous service

Part-time employees who have completed a minimum of the equivalent of 12 months of continuous service may apply; however an exchange would only be possible if another employee working the same fractional profile was also seeking an exchange.

Duration

Most job exchanges will be for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months.

The start date and duration of exchange will be subject to the business requirements of each area, and will be negotiated between the employees and their supervisors.

Approval of the timeframe for the exchange must be obtained from the relevant Director/Executive Dean/Head of College/School/Division.
