Academic Career Lifecycle
The University of Western Sydney (UWS) is progressing with major organisational reform and change through the implementation of the Our People 2015 staffing strategy.
Further development of the staffing strategy from the academic perspective is planned in the form of a project addressing the 'Academic Career Lifecycle': Create and Establish - Enhance - Transition.
This project, although systematically addressing the whole academic career, will be approached through the triangulation of perspectives of early, mid and late stages of academic careers.
The early stage will consider approaches to attract interested qualified people to establishing an academic career. The mid stage will address approaches to support staff and enhance academic careers. The late stage will focus on approaches for late career transitioning – to retirement whilst retaining connections with academia.
The project builds upon and is complementary to projects within the Our People 2015 staffing strategy as:
- progresses the Academic Agenda project
- expands upon the recently implemented 'Cornerstone' Career Development system, a component of the Career and Professional Development project
- provides an interface between the newly implemented Cognos Business Intelligence system and the Alesco HR information system, which supports the Talent Management/Succession management project
Challenges at each stage are identified and solutions offered with action items identified to progress the solutions.
