Biography
Dr Joanne Cummings completed her PhD in Sociology in 2007. She is currently working as a research assistant for the Nursing Research Unit.

Rescuing patients-at-risk: Identification of valid cues for the criterion 'concerned about patient'
Research Team: Team Leader: Dr Jane Cioffi, with Associate Investigators from Sydney West Area Health Service: Mr Richard Conway (CNC), Mr John Senior (CNC), Ms Janet Scott CNC), Ms Leanne Everist (CNC).
Aims: The aims of this project are to identify and describe cues used to identify a patient who has no identified physiological changes and meets the ‘concerned’ criterion for calling emergency support; and to evaluate the content validity of the collected cues using a questionnaire and panel of health professionals with experience in emergency response teams.

Care of clients with chronic and complex conditions: Role of the community nurse in the multidisciplinary team
Research Team: Dr J Cioffi and Professor L. Wilkes with Sydney West Area Health Services Industry Partners: Ms K Harrison and Ms B.Warne.
Aims: The aims of this project are to identify and describe the role of the community nurse caring for clients with chronic and complex conditions in a multidisciplinary team in the community; to validate the descriptors for the role of the community nurse caring for clients with chronic and complex conditions in a multidisciplinary team in the community and provide recommendations for the professional development of community nurses in the current workforce and for the education of the future community nurse workforce charged with the responsibility of caring for clients with chronic and complex conditions.
