Climate Change and Environmental Management Specialisation

 

The Climate Change and Environmental Management specialisation is a flexible learning program that provides professional environmental resource managers with a range of opportunities to upgrade their leadership skills and competencies in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The complex and uncertain nature of climate change will require increased foresight and the application of a range of practical skills across many sectors and professions for climate change adaptation and mitigation process. This specialisation will provide knowledge, skills and practices to enable specialists in the field to effectively prepare communities, resources and industries to build resilience in the face of climate change.

You will have opportunities to learn and understand the impacts and interactions of soils, climate and water on rural, peri-urban and urban landscapes. You will be able to analyse strategies and tactics employed in your own area of work to minimise risks and maximise opportunities related to climate change and climate variability. You will undertake a project of your choice to carry out more in-depth study related to environmental, social and economic factors for improved livelihood and effective land use. The experience gained through this exercise will enhance your skills and competencies for evaluating and adapting appropriate resource management strategies and policy development.

It is estimated that there are more than 100,000 professional environmental resource managers in Australia who have undertaken a science or natural science degree (usually specialising in specific subjects), who have since progressed to senior policy, compliance, assessment, monitoring or administration positions. The benefit to these people in taking this specialisation is improved professional leadership skills, essential in dealing with the wide range of environmental issues of sustainable resource management.
